About Bluestem

Prairie Voices Inc. is pleased to announce the newest addition to our family of choirs. Bluestem's first season will begin in September 2018 under the direction of Geung Kroeker-Lee.

Bluestem is suitable for singers who:

  • are in grades 9 through 12 (ages 14-18)
  • are passionate and excited about singing
  • enjoy performing and travelling/touring with other singers
  • have some music reading skills, a strong sense of pitch, and an understanding of basic vocal technique
  • are open to all types and styles of music

Bluestem members can look forward to:

  • weekly rehearsals with people who love what you love. Rehearsals will be on Thursdays from 7-9:30 pm.
  • eclectic, varied, and challenging music
  • workshops and clinics with Canada's top vocal and choral experts
  • local concerts at the city's top venues
  • collaboration with other choirs and singers in Prairie Voices Inc.


Auditions for Bluestem will be held on an ongoing basis.

Season Overview

Opening Weekend: September 2018 - A Friday/Saturday of rehearsals and getting to know each other and member of other PVI choirs.

Regular Rehearsals: We anticipate rehearsals will be held on Thursday evenings from 7-9:30 at a location TBD (in a community space).

Winter Retreat: January 2019 - An intensive weekend of rehearsals (and fun!) and learning from Geung and a guest clinician.

Projected Performance Schedule:

  • November - Between Friends (with Prairie Voices and a guest choir)
  • March  - In the Family (with Prairie Voices and Horizon)
  • April - Performance (Dates and location TBD)
  • June - Summersing (a celebration of the season with Prairie Voices and Horizon)

Chorister Fee: $450. This covers the cost of repertoire, Opening Weekend activities, retreat weekend activities. It additionally helps us to pay for our artistic directors.
