Who can sing with Prairie Voices?
We welcome all singers between the ages of 18 – 25 to audition for the choir. Singers may be 17 if they will turn 18 during the season, and may turn 26 before the season has ended as long as they are 25 when the season begins.
When are rehearsals?
Prairie Voices rehearses Mondays and some Wednesdays throughout the September – April University school year.
What kind of time commitment is needed for the choir?
Our choir is committed to maintaining a level of professionalism that requires significant time commitment from choristers. They must be able to attend rehearsals, and will be expected to put in time outside of rehearsals to work on their music. Besides the rehearsal schedule, we host three major concerts each season and are invited to sing at numerous other events throughout the year.
Prairie Voices is an unpaid community choir. We understand and support that our choristers have varied interests and commitments. Some excused absences may be allowed at the artistic director’s discretion for extenuating circumstances if advanced notice is given. However it is expected that choristers will not have any regular conflicts with the rehearsal schedule.
When are auditions?
Auditions are held in May/June for the following September. Exact dates will be listed on our calendar and auditions page when available.
What happens at auditions?
Singers are usually required to prepare one set piece and one piece of their own choice for auditions. They will also perform range and sight-reading tests, and have a short personal interview. Exact requirements will be made available each year prior to the scheduled auditions.
Can I hire Prairie Voices to perform at my event?
Prairie Voices books concerts and performances at times more than a year in advance. Bookings are entirely at the discretion of the artistic director, who can be reached at director
