Andrew Koropatnick |
Section: Bass |
1st year in Prairie Voices |
Andrew has always been involved in music since he was young, and will continue this by attending The Faculty of Music at the University of Manitoba this year. This is where he will pursue composition. Andrew is completely excited in every way to be a part of Prairie Voices this upcoming season. This being Prairie Voices 10 year anniversary, you should be looking forward to the best season yet. He is also excited to be reunited with his sister April, and many other past members of the Glenlawn Collegiate Concert Choir. This would also include his partners in crime in the bass section. Andrew thinks it is safe to say that this year of PV will bring a whole new meaning to the word... BASS!!! |
 |
April Koropatnick |
Section: Alto |
3rd year in Prairie Voices |
April is extremely shocked and mildly appalled at how much has changed since she wrote her PV bio last year. She still enjoys walking extreme distances for charities, and the occasional “King Pie”. However, she has experienced numerous educational paths and after temporarily switching to U of W is back at U of M!!! How did this happen?! Don’t ask. She’s not sure. April anticipates many possible career changes as her ultimate goal involves opening up a bakery and really, it has nothing to do with the requirement of formal education whatsoever. School aside, April really hopes that this year Kristel situates the basses behind the altos during rehearsals…just so that Phil won’t have to whine about how tall she is/how big her hair is and how he can’t ever see past her. oh… I went there. Yay! PV! Year number three! It’s gonna be gooood! |

Buffy Cowtan |
Section: Alto |
5th year in Prairie Voices |
Buffy graduated from University last spring, and has now joined the ranks of the overeducated and underemployed. She is known to call any excuse for a get-together a "party" and to have embarassing crushes on annimated beings. The happiest moment of her life so far occurred at approximately 11:35 am, May 17th, 2008, and involved Prairie Voices, Kokopelli, and Rajaton (it was a good day). She's tied for longest-choir-member with Tom Ens, and might have to bump him off just to claim the title. |
 |
Catherine Marshall |
Section: Soprano |
1st year in Prairie Voices |
Catherine is in her fifth (and final!) year of Human Nutritional Sciences at the University of Manitoba and will one day be a Registered Dietitian. In the meantime, she tries really hard not to nag people about eating 7-8 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. In her spare time, she likes to listen to music (John Mayer, KT Tunstall, Paolo Nutini, and Dave Matthews Band are a few noteworthy favourites), go for long walks and bike rides, create delicious baking sensations, tend to her garden, and read interesting books. She also teaches piano to a number of aspiring young Beethovens. If there was an extra hour in the day, Catherine would use it to do the dishes, brush her teeth, listen to CBC radio, and/or have a dance party. In fact, it is not uncommon for her to do all of these things at the same time! A few interesting, but useless facts about Catherine are: she likes waking up early, she has never owned but has always wanted a Nintendo 64, she much prefers crayons over markers, she often mispronounces ‘susceptible’, she is very attached to her agenda book, she hasn’t eaten a hamburger in approximately 10 years, and when she was a child she desperately wanted to be on Mr. Dressup. You will be on Catherine’s good side (i.e. there is a good chance she will bake you cookies) if you do one or more of the following: (a) make her an awesome mix-cd, (b) take her to see a live musical, or (c) watch the Big Bang Theory and think it’s hilarious. Lastly, Catherine would like you to know that, although she tries really hard to hide it, she is really a huge nerd at heart. |

Ellen Ward |

Jane Fingler |
Section: Soprano |
1st year in Prairie Voices |
Jane is fresh outta high school and excited to be singing with Prairie Voices for the first time. She loves singing and enjoys playing her other instruments, and is definitely a choir geek. Jane's all time favourite band is The Beatles, and has drawn much inspiration from them in many ways. Jane also really enjoys the simple things in life such as sunshine, love, riding bikes, sleeping, and laughing at things that really aren’t that funny. Jane hopes to obtain a degree in singing someday, and would love to teach music. That’s really all she can think of, so that’s all for now! |
 |
Jeff Buhse |
Section: Bass |
3rd year in Prairie Voices |
Sorry ladies, he’s married. He does dress wonderfully, but that is no excuse to stare ;) That deep, resonant voice of his attracts more than just women, but birds. Jeff is an active ornithologist and loves Icelandic Sagas. I know, it is pretty weird that he is actually married with these odd pastimes… he sure got lucky. Jeff is entering his third year in PV and is hoping for some good times, and he especially hopes to see you all at the concerts. |

Jenna Hill |
Section: Soprano |
2nd year in Prairie Voices |
I'm twenty years old, have blue eyes and drive a gold Mazda 626 (whatever that means). I have an older sister, two loving parents and a dog named Minnie. I also have a wonderful boyfriend whom I met in this here choir. Lots of good things have happened and I'm sure will continue to happen in my experience with PV. That is why I'm glad to be back for my second year.
I’m currently at the University of Winnipeg completing my Bachelor of Arts in Theatre. This will be my third and final year. But then what...?
I am so privileged to be in such a great choir because singing is what I love to do most. I have so many people to thank for putting me out there and helping me recognize my ability to sing. So thank you to those people; you know who you are and I love you all.
Oh! And If I were a Disney character, I would like to be Ariel from the Little Mermaid. She has nice hair. |

Kaethe Friesen-Hughes |
Section: Alto |
1st year in Prairie Voices |
My name is Kaethe and this is my first year in Prairie Voices. I’ve been singing in choirs since elementary, and really got into singing in high school. Singing is one of the things that truly makes me happy. I have a twin brother and a younger brother, and I have lived in Wolseley my whole life. I enjoy Will Ferrell movies and harry potter, like all cool people should, and I enjoy road trips, bike rides and multiple part harmonies. I can’t wait to start this year to try being an Alto for the first time, and I look forward to being part of a choir again. |
 |
Karin Ens |
Section: Soprano |
3rd year in Prairie Voices |
Karin could not BE more excited to sing 1st soprano again in Prairie Voices for her 3rd year. There’s nothing quite like singing really high notes to ensure you are heard by everyone in the room… although Karin’s talking voice is pretty hard to miss as well, as it’s generally being used at top volume. As a 2nd year pharmacy student at U of M, she plans on trying out her newfound knowledge by recommending different lozenges and other sore throat remedies to all other members of PV, maybe she’ll even get you a discount at Shopper’s Drug Mart. |
 |
Katy Thurmeier |
Section: Soprano |
2nd year in Prairie Voices |
Katy is a second year flute major at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Music. She has a keen interest in both choral and instrumental conducting, and is pursuing a combined bachelor degree of music and education. She has been singing since she was very young, and this is her second year in Prairie Voices. She is looking forward to another wonderful year of incredible repertoire and creative musical expression in the choir. When she is not playing flute or singing, Katy enjoys swimming, dancing and spending time in the great outdoors. |

Kelsey Mackay |
Section: Alto |
1st year in Prairie Voices |
Since the first time I saw Prairie Voices perform, I knew I had to be in it. So when I graduated I tried out right away. In the fall I am starting my first year in the faculty of Music at Canadian Mennonite University studying voice, but that's all I know so far. I love music and was involved in many choirs at school, played "Dorothy" in the Wizard of Oz in my school play and took private voice lessons. Lauren Harris |
Section: Soprano |
4th year in Prairie Voices |
So this is already my fourth year in Prairie, which I find absolutely mind-blowing! Good times pass quickly I guess… I also happen to be the “attendance officer” for PV- so watch out! I don’t like it when people are late!
This is a big year for me- I am graduating from the U of M this spring with a B.A. in Honours English, with which I hope to pursue a career in book and/ or magazine editing in a few years. Then this summer I am getting married! So if you see me looking stressed out this year, it’s probably because I can’t decide whether I should be doing homework or reading yet another Martha Stewart Weddings magazine… tough choices…
I am definitely looking forward to a very exciting season with Prairie! I wonder what dance steps I will learn this year… |
 |
Lauren Kroeker |
Section: Alto |
3rd year in Prairie Voices |
After a 2 year hiatus Lauren Kroeker happily returns to the Prarie Voices family. Although the 2 years were filled with traveling and adventure there is no place like the PV home and Lauren is looking forward to re-engaging in the joy of choir. Finishing off her Political Science degree at U of W and singing her face off is Lauren’s plan for this upcoming year.... hurrah! |
 |
Nicole Dubois |
Section: Alto |
1st year in Prairie Voices |
I’ll wait till nobody’s looking, then I’ll…dance like nobody’s business, although who said I’ll wait till nobody’s looking, even if it isn’t any of their business?
When I was little I used to think that… 1. Those metal grain storage bins in fields along the highway were where robots lived. 2. All dads went to a building called “Work” everyday; it was a brown building with a big blue sign on it displaying this title.
My theme song is: “Soulful Strut”, by Young Holt Unlimited. You know, in The Parent Trap (new version with Lindsay Lohan), the handshake song? That’s right. Download it. It is the ultimate happy dance song; you cannot help dancing and playing the air piano. At least, I can’t.
If I were a Disney character, I’d be…Pocahontas. Hands down.
The most embarrassing song on my iPod is…One time my friend asked me, “What are you listening to?” I replied, “Old music.” “Oh cool, like what?” “Music that’s not old enough to be ‘cool’…” I was listening to Destiny’s Child, the Survivor album. My iPod also has a large quantity of old Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys.
Late at night I like to eat…cereal! Not just late at night, but anytime! I eat it for breakfast, afternoon snack, and post-dinner snack. I like all kinds of cereal, but my favourite would have to be Mini-Wheats.
I’d like to hang out with…Andrew Lloyd Webber, so that he could compose a smash-hit musical for me to star in. |

This is my first year in Prairie Voices, and I am very excited to be part of it. I took vocal lessons in my hometown of Ear Falls, Ontario from age 14-18 and completed the Grade 8 RCM Vocal Exam in 2003. My teacher has been asking me every year since if I’ve gotten involved in a singing group and I’ve finally been able to tell her yes! I heard about Prairie Voices from a friend of mine who was involved the last few years and she encouraged me to try out. I am looking forward to getting to know the people in Prairie Voices and being able to sing in a group again. It’s going to be a great year! |

Tom Jansen |
Section: Tenor |
2nd year in Prairie Voices |
I am so very excited to return for a second year to sing with Prairie Voices! I am currently a second year music major at the University of Manitoba studying the Euphonium. "What is a euphonium?" you might ask. Well to save us both the time and a possibly awkward encounter, I shall tell you what it is. A euphonium is a seemingly useless combination of every brass instrument, that is sadly often forgotten and/or purposely ignored. Besides playing, singing, and now arranging music, I enjoy busting out a good dance move and having sing-a-longs to your favorite Disney musicals. |
